Throbbing head, sneezing and watering eyes are just some of the frustrating symptoms you may suffer from pollen season here in the Kansas City area. Allergies can make it hard to concentrate at work or to feel up to handling daily tasks. If you are susceptible to tree pollen, you might want to consider having low-pollen native trees planted in your landscape to help reduce the pollen count around your home.

Eastern Red Cedar

A small to medium sized tree, the Eastern Red Cedar is an evergreen that has a light, pleasant scent. Leaves turn bronze in winter and remain dark green through the remainder of the year. Through August and September the female cones on the tree become berrylike, dark blue in color with a waxy coating.

Box Elder

Box elder is a pretty medium-sized tree. Leaves are a light green on the surface with a grayish green on the bottom. The box elder flowers from April to May with small greenish flowers. Fruit appears in August and can remain on the tree through winter. A fast growing tree, the box elder provides food for birds and squirrels throughout the winter.

Consider these two trees in your landscape to reduce pollen in your yard. For more help with your Kansas city area tree care, contact the experts at Cartwright Tree Care. We would be happy to help you choose the right trees for your home and help you care for them throughout their life.
