daylilly

The University of Missouri has called the daylily "America's Favorite Perennial." The hearty plant, which is part of the genus Hemerocallis, has benefits for almost every yard.

  • Low-maintenance. The daylily prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade as well. Also, the plant prefers medium-heavy garden loam, but can also tolerate many other soil textures.
  • Diverse. The daylily is available in a variety of colors, types, and sizes.
  • Hybridization. According to Kansas State University, daylily hybridization has resulted in increased flowering ability and other positive attributes.
  • Plant in fall. Daylilies do especially well when planted in autumn. Kansas State University notes that:
<em>"Roots remain active and flowers for the next year begin </em>
<em>to form. Daylilies also can be planted in the spring."</em>
