Every year more Americans are becoming more ecologically aware and attempting to live greener through recycling and environmentally friendly design. One place you can be more environmentally friendly in is your own garden, using these easy eco-friendly tips from Bridging the Gap:

  • Promote Wildlife: The right blend of plants and access to water from a fountain can bring birds, bats and other insect predators into your yard for natural insect control. Bat boxes, bird cages and hummingbird feeders can also be a decorative addition to your landscaping.
  • Go Local: Native plants help provide habitats for local birds, are more resistant to regional diseases and need less maintenance and water.
  • Lawn Growth: Don’t cut your grass too short. This dries out the soil and makes you have to water more. In wetter areas, the higher grass blocks sunlight to help prevent moss growth.
  • Fewer Chemicals: Use mulch, especially in areas under trees, to help prevent weeds without the use of weed killer, which contaminates the water table.
  • Do No Harm: Call in experts like Cartwright Tree Care to prune your trees. Too many trees are killed by improper pruning, which can leave a tree open to disease and insects.
