Emerald ash borer are beetle larvae that bore into trees, tunneling between the bark and wood. Ash borers impede the movement of water and nutrients, eventually killing the tree. Emerald ash borer prefer trees under stress, but are capable of killing healthy trees. The [Missouri Department of Conservation](http://mdc.mo.gov/landwater-care/invasive-species/invasive-animal-management/emerald-ash-borer-control/emerald-ash-bor) states that all of Missouri's native ash trees (white, blue, green and pumpkin ash), as well as many horticultural cultivars are susceptible to EAB infestation.
