However, you will need to take care of them, especially during the colder seasons. Look for sticky fluid seeping out of cracked bark, discoloration, unusual growths and bark that is falling off. Damaged or diseased fruit trees should be removed. - Check the structure of the trees. Make any pruning cuts that are necessary – fruit trees will heal quicker when pruning cuts are made during the late fall or winter. Remove branches that look like they are going to be growing into one another and cut out all dead wood. - Use a dormant fruit spray or dormant oil spray to destroy pathogenic agents or chronic pests. Don’t use general insecticides if the tree has begun to bud. These are just a few tips to use when maintaining your fruit trees during the colder seasons.
