If you plan on adding trees to your landscape that contains a lot of shade, you'll not only want to add trees that will beautify your landscape but that will also thrive even if there's a lack of sunlight. This is why we recommend planting Japanese maples. The following are a few of the types of maples that you can grow in the shady parts of your landscape:
- Ryusen - The trees on this maple are arranged upright on long branches that often run along the ground, therefore making them great options for planting above a retaining wall or even hanging over a pond.
- Mikawa Yatsubusa - These maples only grow to 5 feet and do so quite slowly. They are also incredibly flexible in terms of shaping and branching, which is why bonsai experts consider it to be one of the best cultivars available. During the fall, their leaves turn yellow-orange.
- Waterfall - This stunning maple has a cascading shape to its leaves that earned it its name. They grow roughly 6 to 10 feet and help provide a unique and delicate appearance to the landscape.
