conifersConifers are a great way to add texture and structure to any garden or landscape. Choose the right conifer for your yard with these conifer landscaping tips.

  • Mixing together plants in a variety of sizes can give you a more interesting three-dimensional look. Try juxtaposing hedges with larger conifer trees or shrubs, then finish the look with shorter plants along the hedge line.
  • Find inspiration for your garden on the color wheel. For a more subdued garden, choose colors that are near one another on the color wheel, such as reds and oranges. To really make your garden pop, pick complementary colors, which are on opposite sides of the color wheel, such as orange and blue.
  • Other elements to consider when incorporating conifers into the garden are texture and shape, which can help blend together plants that would otherwise seem incongruous. Choosing plants with similar shapes allows you to incorporate a variety of colors and sizes while maintaining an overarching theme.
