Trees are beautiful and offer a wide variety of benefits to the environment. However, trees can be dangerous if they are not properly maintained. Snow, ice, wind, and lightning are just a few factors that can add into the danger of trees, as these elements can cause limbs to break and entire trees to fall, injuring people and causing damage to property.

Proper tree care is essential to prevent trees from becoming hazardous. Often times, however, we find that many home and property owners aren’t quite sure of how they can spot potentially hazardous trees. We recently came across a Tree Hazard Checklist on the Trees Are Good website that is a very helpful resource for spotting potential hazards. Here are a few points on the checklist to keep in mind the next time you take a look at the trees in your yard:

  • Are there large dead branches in the tree?
  • Are there detached branches hanging in the tree?
  • Are there cracks or splits in the trunk or where branches are attached?
  • Have adjacent trees fallen over or died?

If you answered yes to these or any of the questions on the checklist, it’s a good idea to contact a certified arborist. A certified arborist can assess the tree or trees in question and determine what must be done to remove the dangers involved with your trees. If you have a tree in question, contact Cartwright Tree Care! We can help you with all of your tree care needs.
