KC_loves_treesTrees can do a lot for a city, from improving its overall air quality to helping to beautify the streets and make sure that nature still has its place amidst the urban jungle. Kansas City is an example of a city that understands this, which is why we have so many trees populating our city.

Kansas City is actually known for its many trees, to the point where it's often nicknamed the "city in a forest." Recently, the Forestry Division of the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department conducted a survey to determine the number of trees in the city. They found out that 8.248 trees had been added in areas that were publicly owned and developed since the last time that they took count in 2001, bringing the total number of trees in public spaces to over 135,000. The ability to count trees is made possible by the Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance grant, which the city obtained from the Missouri Department of Conservation. Kansas City is also home to 1,408 ash trees that are in the Kansas City's Emerald Ash Borer protection program.
