A hearty plant, common in sandy areas of Kansas and Missouri. The [yellow blossoms](http://plants.usda.gov/plantguide/pdf/cs_riaua.pdf) are followed by a  small, rounded, edible fruit which is dark purple when ripe. The edible fruit can be good in pies, jam and jelly...with a tasty recipe! The deciduous shrub prefers well-drained soil and provides food and shelter for songbirds. The blooms have a clover smell which many find appealing. The golden currant is a [dual-use species](http://sanjuan.wsu.edu/mastergardeners/documents/Golden-Currant.pdf), and is therefore good for both ornamental and conservation purposes.
