The disease, which is caused by a fungus that is transmitted by bark beetles or root grafting, can be cause trees to die very quickly if measures to prevent Dutch elm disease are not taken. Recently, we read on [Inhabitat](http://inhabitat.com/scientists-clone-elm-trees-to-protect-them-from-extinction/) that Canadian scientists has found a way to clone elm trees and that their findings could help create a model for preserving and growing thousands of endangered plants around the world. The scientists’ study was published just last week in the Canadian Journal of Forest Research and is the first of its kind in creating replicas of the buds of mature American elm trees. We find this study to be quite intriguing and look forward to updates on the study.
