If you’re looking for a few ways to spruce up your home’s landscape, then planting a few bushes around your outdoor area is a great idea. Adding bushes to your landscape is a sure way to add both diversity and depth. Keep the following pointers in mind if you decide to plant bushes outside of your home:

  • Choosing a location – You can’t just plop a bush down anywhere you want. Bushes need to have good soil drainage in order to thrive. The soil you use should drain at least one to two inches of water per hour.
  • When to plant – Although you can technically plant burlapped bushes or container-grown bushes at any time, the best time to plant any bushes is in the late fall, when they have gone dormant, or in the early spring before they begin developing new growth.
  • Preparing – If you’re planting bare-rooted bushes, make sure that you soak their roots a few hours before planting. For container-grown or burlapped shrubs, dig a hole that’s at least twice as wide and deep as the earth ball.
