- The best way to tell if a tree needs water is to dig down approximately 6 to 10 inches and check the soil. If the soil has a powdery feel then it's time to water. But if it holds together when pressed into a ball, the water content is sufficient.
- Spread mulch around the tree base to help fight moisture loss.
- Water it regularly until the end of August. As the weather turns cooler, the tree will need less moisture.
- Consider using a root feeder or soil needle attachment to ensure the new roots get adequate moisture. This will guarantee the entire root zone gets water movement.
