Quick "New" Tree Care Tips:

Like many things, trees that are looked after do well, but once they start to decline they are much harder to bring back to health.  Follow the tips below to make sure your newly planted tree will flourish.

1.) Water newly planted trees as often as possible.  Once in the ground it is almost impossible to over-water a tree.

2.) Remove weeds and grass, it keeps them from competing with your newly planted tree for water and nutirents and mulch keeps the soil moist and prevents weeds from popping back up.

3.) Guards protect your trees from animal damage, stakes are important for root support and for future root stregth.

For your Mature Trees

Trees are generally trimmed for one of three purposes: aesthetics, safety, or health.  For example:

* Aesthetic - Proper trimming or pruning helps maintain the shape and appearance.

* Safety- Dead or broke branches and limbs can fall off at any time, which could be a serious safety hazard to property and pedestrians.

* Health - It is sometimes possible to save an infected tree by pruning away the affected branches and limbs. Thinning the crown of a tree improves the airflow, which can be very beneficial.

The best time to trim your tree is during its dormant season.
