Preventative Treatments for Healthier Trees

Preventing Kansas City's Most Common Tree Diseases

Preventative treatments are one of the most effective ways to ensure disease-free trees. Many diseases are irreversible once put into play, and many can have fatal results. Many factors contribute to the spread of disease, such as wind, insects, infected tools, and pollens. Because of these factors, it is very difficult to defend your tree from potential risks without preventative treatments.

Preventative treatments offered:

  • Insect Prevention: We offer a one-time annual treatment to prevent the insect from invading your trees.
  • Sycamore Anthracnose: Used as a preventative and as a control measure. Lasts up to 3 years.
  • Dutch Elm: Used as preventative only; no known cure or control.
  • Pine Blight: Offer preventative and control measures.
  • Pine Wilt: Offer preventative measures only; no available cure or control.
  • Oak Wilt: Offer preventative measures only; no known cure or control.

Common Preventative Treatments:

Pine Sphearopsis

Scenario: “I noticed that one of my neighbors had removed all their pines this year because they had pine blight and wilt. I have three beautiful pines in my front yard and am now worried about losing mine too."

Solution: Pine Blight is becoming a problem in the Kansas City area. It is often confused with Pine Wilt, a deadly disease. Pine Blight is preventable for any susceptible pine. It is a tricky process, though, and can only be prevented during a specific time period between the end of April and Mid-June. Therefore, setting an appointment is recommended, though we can take appointments at any time.

Pine Sphearopsis is transferred by an insect that carries the fungi on its legs. To prevent the spread, a spray must be applied to the foliage to prevent the insect from landing on the tree in the first place. For this procedure to work, we must apply three spray applications within the six week season in which these insects are in movement.
