Don't Worry, Your Redbud Tree is Probably Fine

redbud_treeWhen inspecting a redbud tree on your property, it's not uncommon to come across things you've never seen before that look worrisome. For example, your tree may be full of brown seed pods. They could make your tree much less visually pleasing and they may cover your flowers, but that doesn't mean that the tree is dying or needs to be cut down. In fact, it's probably nothing to worry about.

There are a lot of redbud trees that are experiencing these symptoms throughout the city. What's happening is that the seedpods are hanging on due to the hard freeze that the city had last November. It could also simply be a characteristic of that particular tree within Kansas City's climate. Your tree is not dying and these pods that are covering your tree will fall eventually. The tree may not look great with the seed pods, but if you can manage to live with the slight eyesore for a bit, your redbud will turn out fine - it will live around 20 years, after all.

Don't panic if you notice that your redbud tree is covered in seed pods. Contact us at Cartwright Tree Care for more tree healthcare information.
