Tips on How to Fertilize a Tree

fertilizerTrees need to have regular care in order to maintain their health. Part of this care requires you to keep your trees well fed with the use of fertilizer. Fertilizer will help trees grow stronger so that they can fight off disease and pests. The following are a few tips on how to fertilize a tree:

If you are going to fertilize your trees during the middle or end of summer, make sure you avoid fertilizers that are high in nitrogen. These fertilizers will promote new growth that is weak and will be easily damaged during the winter. The best time to fertilize most trees is from the fall to the middle of spring.

When placing the fertilizer, make sure that it reaches the entire root system of a tree. A general rule of thumb is that the roots extend just past the outer reach of the tree's branches. You'll also need to place the fertilizer underneath any plants or else it will feed those plants and not your trees.

These are some basic tips for feeding your trees with fertilizer. For information about our tree care services in Kansas City, contact us at Cartwright Tree Care today.
