Top Tree Care Tips for Winter - Part 1

Written by vkinney on December 02, 2011 . Posted in Tree Healthcare, Tree Maintenance

Winter weather can be very hard on your trees, so it’s important to do all you can to ensure that they remain strong and healthy through the season. Over the next few blog posts, we’ll be sharing some winter tree care tips that are helpful in avoiding problems through the winter. We’ll start with these three tips:

  1. Prune limbs that are infected with diseases when dormant, as this will help prevent the spread of the infection. Although this may sound silly, you’ll want to sterilize your pruning tools between pruning cuts to prevent spreading the disease.
  2. Remove fallen leaves from beneath trees whose species are known to be susceptible to disease.
  3. Install a temporary support system, such as a rope, cable, or twine on those trees and plants that are susceptible to snow and ice loads. Don’t forget to remove the temporary support in the spring.

Of course, if you are in doubt about any winter tree care issues, you can always ask your friendly tree care experts at Cartwright Tree Care. We would be happy to assist you with any of your tree care questions or concerns. Give us a call at 816-965-6758.
