The Swamp White Oak is a popular tree in Kansas City, according to Kansas City Homes & Gardens Magazine.

The Swamp White Oak makes an excellent shade tree and can grow up to sixty feet high. The tree is, according to the University of Missouri, drought tolerant.

The Kansas Forest Service named the Swamp White Oak a Preferred Tree for Northwest Kansas. That's a good thing, because it means we can appreciate its rich green leaves in summer and vibrant red leaves in autumn.

Care does need to be taken to ensure that limbs are tended to and that the Swamp White Oak does not fall prey to anthracnose or oak decline.
