[Composting](https://www.bridgingthegap.org/start-composting/) is not a difficult procedure and merely involves collecting household garbage and backyard debris and reusing it in your landscaping after it has been allowed to decompose. Though it is a [relatively simple process](http://blog.cartwrighttree.com/tree-healthcare/what-makes-good-compost/), there are some things that you should pay attention to when composting: - All dried leaves, dead branches and grass clippings are always acceptable in compost. - Fruits and vegetables that have started to turn and leftovers are excellent. - Fireplace ash is acceptable if only natural products have been burned. - Newspapers are generally fine for compost, but do not include glossy or heavily inked inserts. - Cardboard should be shredded to help the decomposition of the material. - DO NOT add meat, bones or fish as they will attract scavengers and insects. - Also avoid adding weeds as you may inadvertently spread the seeds throughout your lawn or garden These are the basics of composting, which should get you off to a good start.
