There may be several instances in which the trees on your property may need structural support. In this case, you may want to [use cabling and bracing](http://www.umass.edu/urbantree/factsheets/36cablingandbracing.html) in order to provide that support. Cabling and bracing reduces the chance of death in a structurally compromised tree by installing cables high into the tree and at least two-thirds the distance away from the defect of the tree. Rods must then be installed right below the defect.
