April's Tree of The Month - European Beech

Written by Blog Dispensary KC on January 30, 2017 .

shutterstock_493286041.jpgThe European beech has been described as the finest specimen tree available. Tree expert Michael Dirr hales claims it “so beautiful that it overwhelms one at first glance.”

This tree becomes a large shade tree, but due to Kansas Cities hot summers and rapid temperature changes in winter, its growth will be limited to its actual potential.

Sun scald of the bark and leaf scorch are common problems during hot, dry weather. The European beech should not be ignored when planning your urban Kansas City landscaping, although limited in use, they make great noise barriers.

Hardiness zones: 4-6

Height: 40-50 feet

Spread: 15-25  feet
