When most people think of tree healthcare, they think of ensuring that the tree is properly pruned and checked for any insect infestation or diseases. However, after the worst drought since 1930, the summer of 2012 may have affected your trees more than you realized. Here is what you should be looking for this summer in order to make certain your trees are healthy:

  • Stunted Growth: Just like starvation can lead to long term damage, so too can drought bring root damage. Look for stunted or slow growth or a lack of buds. Pine needles dropping early is another warning sign of drought damage.
  • Weakened Immunity: Younger, less-established trees are more susceptible to drought damage. This weakens them and makes them more prone to insect damage or disease. Carefully watch your younger trees for the early signs of these two problems.
  • Deceptive Symptoms: Sadly many signs for one tree problem could be the result of drought damage. Treating the wrong symptom could harm your tree. If a problem arises this year, it is best to call in a tree care specialist to properly assess the best treatment needed.

In all cases, 2013 is the year to be very attentive to your landscaping. Early detection means early and effective treatment to avoid any tree loses. Contact Cartwright Tree Care if you suspect any drought damage in your trees.
