A while back, we discussed Bosco Verticale, the world’s first vertical forest that is currently under construction in Milan, Italy. After we discovered that news, we came across the news that one of France’s major landmarks could become a giant tree.
Inhabitat and Yahoo! News are just a few of the websites that have been buzzing about the plans of engineering group Ginger, which would turn the Eiffel Tower into the world’s tallest tree. According to the sources, the $98.8 million project would add about 600,000 plants to the tower. Inhabitat reports that the Ginger group suggests turning the Eiffel Tower into a giant tree would remove just under 88 tons of carbon dioxide from the air.
Yahoo! News reports that the Ginger group is currently running tests to see if the tower could sustain the extra weight from the plants (estimated at 378 tons). If so, the plants would be grown from December through June of next year, and then added to the tower in January 2013, and on display until July of 2016.
