healthy_treeOne of the ways that you can keep your property's trees healthy is by providing them with nutritious soil. Because the tree's root system obtains its nourishment from the soil, it's important that you use high quality soil. The following are a few tips to keep in mind when feeding soil to your trees:

  • Test the pH levels - The pH level is important to knowing what adjustments you need to make. It also helps you figure out what kind of fertilizer you should purchase as different fertilizers will influence the pH levels differently.

  • Don't over fertilize - Too much fertilizer can upset your pH balance, which can hurt the tree.

  • Create a mulch ring - Create a shallow ring of mulch that circles around your tree. It should be as wide as the canopy. This will help the tree retain water and to alleviate compaction. The mulch should be stretched evenly at a depth of two to four inches and should be at least six inches away from the tree's trunk.

Use these tips in order to ensure your tree has nutritious soil. For more information about tree maintenance and tree care, be sure to contact us at Cartwright Tree Care today.
