Written by Cartwright on October 21, 2014 . Posted in Tree Maintenance

One of the great things about the fall season is the fact that it’s just about time to begin picking the apples from the trees in Kansas City. If you’re going to go pick some apples or simply buy freshly picked apples, then the following are a few tips about the different types:

  • kansas city apple trees Source: Flickr
Fuji – These crunchy apples are reddish with bits of yellow or green splashed in. They’re great for baking since they won’t turn into mush and are also one of the sweetest apples you can pick.
  • Red Delicious – These apples aren’t very good for baking since they turn to mush, but they are fantastic when eaten fresh or when added to salads.
  • Golden Delicious – These apples are sweet but also slightly tart. They can be used for cooking as well.
  • Honeycrisp – These large, yellow and red apples are sweet with a hint of tart. Their quite crisp as well, making them perfect for eating fresh.
  • Zestar – These apples are very similar to Honeycrisp apples, but they are especially great for making caramel apples due to their firm flesh.

Pick some apples today and contact us at Cartwright Tree Care for additional information.
