Kansas City Treehouses – Important Aspects to Consider

Kansas City Treehouses – Important Aspects to Consider Before Building That Extra Room with a View

At Cartwright Tree Care we have a passion for all things trees.  Treehouses are just amongst many of our favorite Summer tree care topics.  They are often hold a certain mystery and beauty.  Whether it was built with the help of tiny hands who would later enjoy it, or a professional carpenter, treehouses are just plain cool!

If you are a parent or tree lover, you may be looking to add a tree house to your property this summer. Whether you are looking for a play house for the kiddos, or an on property personal retreat, there are some things to consider before starting construction.

Choosing the right tree is paramount when it comes to your treehouse.  Hardwood trees by name provide a harder more durable and dense wood which are greatly beneficial when building a treehouse.  Trees like Oaks, hemlock, maples, beech and cherry all do very well as a foundation for your treehouse.

Next aspect of the project you will want to consider is the height of the treehouse you’d like to build.  Treehouses typically need limbs that are eight or more inches in diameter to properly support its weight.  Depending on the tree you choose and the branch pattern you may need to do some tree trimming for it to work.

Your treehouse doesn’t need to be extremely high into the tree.  Keep in mind it just needs to be taller than the people who will be using it.  The size, height and weight of the treehouse is also an important factor to keep in mind.  When constructing, be sure to also put the weight of the treehouse primarily towards the center of the tree. Uneven loads can create stress weight on the tree.

Having your trees inspected and receiving a thorough analysis from an Arbor Consultant is always a great way to start your project.  Give Cartwright Tree Care a call at 816-965-6758  and we will be happy to have one of our professional Arborists advise you on the best tree on your property to make all your treehouse dreams come true.
