Keep Your Shrubs Safe From Harsh Winter Winds

Winter weather can be a little bit harsh on plant life. Because of this, you’ll want to take extra precautions when caring for your trees and shrubs. The following are a few tips to help you keep your shrubs safe from the harsh winds of winter:

Protect shrubs from snow and ice – Although your deciduous shrubs don’t offer much visual interest during the winter, they are more vulnerable. Snow and ice can result in the breaking of their branches. You can buy snow frames for your shrubs or build your own out of natural materials. These will help keep excessive snow and ice off your shrubs.
  • Prevent winter burn – Evergreen shrubs still look great in the winter but are prone to injury caused by wind damage. Pick up some commercial tree wraps, often made from burlap netting, and bind your shrubs. However, this won’t keep snow and ice out, just wind. You can also build a wire cage around your shrubs and then fasten the tree wrap thereby providing better overall protection.

Use these tips to protect your shrubs this winter and contact us at Cartwright Tree Care for all your tree and shrub care needs.
