Minimizing Competition Between Trees and Other Plants in Your Yard

Written by cartwrighttreecare on July 17, 2015 . Posted in Featured

planting_a_treeThere are a lot of factors to consider when adding trees to your landscape. Unfortunately, you can't just add a tree here and there without thinking about how the tree will affect the rest of your landscape. There will be a competition between trees and other plants for water and light, after all. The following are a few things you'll need to keep in mind:

If you plant your tree right over grass and other plants, it's going to end up covering the area in shade, which could kill your grass and other plants depending on their variety. Grass tends to be a sun-loving plant and will not grow very well in an area that gets less than 50 percent open sunlight. Fortunately, there are some shade tolerant grass varieties that you may be able to get. You also want to make sure the spacing of your trees throughout your landscape doesn't make it so that it's difficult to mow the grass - the last thing you want to do is damage the trunks of your trees with your lawn mower.
