Source: via freedigitalphotos.net- When pruning, avoid top pruning. Some plants, such as honeysuckle, lilacs, mockorange and more, will form flower buds on the growth that was produced form the previous year. If you top prune these plants, you’ll lose the flowers.
- Prune any overgrown shrubs by removing a few of the canes all the way to the ground. This will help let light into the middle of the plant as well as prevent the leggy appearance caused by becoming overgrown.
- Look for broken, diseased or dead branches on the trees on your property. These branches should be removed by cutting outside the branch collar, which is located at the base of the branch.
