Rid Missouri and Kansas Trees of Anthracnose

Written by cartwrighttreecare on June 05, 2012 . Posted in Tree Healthcare

Anthracnose strikes tree species including sycamores, maples, ash and some oaks. According to the University of Missouri, Anthracnose is an umbrella term for a number of fungal diseases.

Signs of Anthracnose

  • Blotches on leaves where water collects in pockets between veins.

    Anthracnose
  • Lesions, which look tan or black on sycamore.
  • It can attack and kill twigs and branches, but is often not harmful to the overall health of many trees.
How to Limit Spread of Anthracnose
  • Rake and dispose of dead leaves.
  • Anthracnose forms when water accumulates. So space new plants far enough apart to maximize air circulation and increase sunlight, both of which allow leaves to dry faster. (Source: UC Davis)
  • Prune during winter to increase air circulation in the canopy.
