Storms and High Winds Hit Hard in Kansas and Missouri

Although the official start of spring isn’t for a few more weeks, the past few days have brought spring-like storms and high winds to Kansas and Missouri. The storms began barreling through on Tuesday night and continued through midday Wednesday, spawning tornadoes in some locations and leaving behind devastating damage.

The Kansas City Star reports that an EF-2 tornado with winds between 111 and 135 mile per hour struck without warning in Harveyville, Kansas, a town about 100 miles southwest of Kansas City, late Tuesday night. The twister threw trees into houses and caused massive amounts of damage to about half of the buildings in the town. An EF-2 tornado was also confirmed to have to have touched down in Branson, Missouri early Wednesday morning. Much of the damage that occurred in Branson happened on the main strip of the tourist town, with roofs blown off of hotels and damage to attractions like theaters and go-cart tracks very present.

High winds also caused significant damage to a construction site in the Northland area of Kansas City, where a commercial property was significantly damaged by storms on Tuesday night, according to The Kansas City Star.
