Summer in Kansas City – Tree Care Checklist

Summer in Kansas City | Tree Care Checklist

Summer in Kansas City can give us a variety of challenges when it comes to tree care.

We have temperamental seasons as it is, and this year particularly we have seen cold and hot snaps come and go quickly. We are also in Tornado Alley and have already seen the storm chasing crews drive through our area once this season.

On top of the wind and weather issues we also have many unwelcomed pests and insects this time of year, and with sporadic rain we can often see an influx of certain pests due to more moisture.

With these numerous factors at play it is important to do the following tasks this season to keep your lawn healthy and looking its best.

  1. Pruning/Trimming – trimming and pruning your trees, shrubs and vines is a very underestimated task. While homeowners continue to ignore and undermine the importance of this task, it proves time and time again to be valuable and a good investment of time and money. When trimming, trees especially, you can help to prevent unwanted property damage and potential liability concerns by trimming any broken, heavy or damaged branches.
  2. Pest and Inset Control – this season brings many unwanted species and crawly creepers. Some can carry disease and fungus that can kill or cause disease in trees. Having a general pest and insect treatment like what Cartwright Tree Care offers, is a great way to prevent damage to the trees that you have worked hard to cultivate and maintain.
  3. Moisture Control – Our region can see very dry and extremely wet summer season, and we never really know. Be sure to manage the water on your property. Do not over water with sprinkles. Conserve and water early morning and evening so as not to evaporate water and waste any. Also, be sure to watch water flow and drainage and not let water pool. Pooling water will draw insects and can create weakness in soil.

If you can follow check these tasks off your list than kudos to you. You have set yourself out for a beautiful summer, and a healthy one for your trees and shrubs. Now get out there and enjoy that property!
