The Junipers Have Started Sharing Their Pollen With Kansas City

Written by Cartwright on September 30, 2016 .

If you’re trying to decide what types of trees you want to add to your property, there are a few things you’ll want to consider - including things you don’t want. For example, if you tend to suffer from allergies during the spring time, then odds are you won’t want to have juniper trees on your property.

Juniper trees are known for releasing a large amount of pollen during the spring season. That pollen is what often aggravates the allergies of many people. The Children’s Mercy Hospital has been recording the pollen levels of trees in Kansas City for years. Juniper trees were not always known as large pollen producers. In fact, oak and ragweed trees tend to be more known for their high pollen production. However, junipers are currently reaching the same level of pollen production. Around 20 years ago, the pollen produced by junipers were recorded at low levels. Now, they can produce almost 1,000 grains of pollen per cubic meter.

Spring season is here and that means allergy season is as well, which means you may want to avoid juniper trees. For more information about trees in Kansas City, be sure to contact us at Cartwright Tree Care today.
