As stormy weather is inevitable in spring and summer, we thought it would be a good time to remind our readers of some tips for dealing with storm damaged trees. Below are some tips we recently came across on the Missouri Community Forestry Council’s blog that will be helpful to refer to in the event of storm damage.

  • You should always think of your safety, as well as the safety of others, when you begin to clean up. Reducing hazards should be a top concern. If a tree has become entangled in downed electrical lines, contact the electrical company and alert them of the downed power lines. If there are no hazards like that, or after the lines have been removed, clean up any fallen limbs or branches and other debris that could be blocking access to your home.
  • Be sure to look for hanging tree limbs and branches that could fall on your home or vehicles. These need immediate attention.
  • Survey the rest of the damage and determine what else should receive immediate attention and what can wait until the crisis at hand passes. Ideally, you should contact a tree care company to assess the damage, as they can provide a professional analysis of the situation.
