Trees in different stages of life obviously have different needs, so obviously they will need to be cared for differently. Today we wanted to discuss caring for mature trees. We recently came across a great article on Service Magic that shares some great pointers to help you care for mature trees. We’ve included a few points from the article below.
- Visual Inspections – Homeowners should regularly inspect their trees so that they will be able to spot any abnormalities in the tree’s annual lifecycle. When checking a mature tree, be sure to take note of leaf size and appearance, amount of new buds and leaves, twig growth, and the appearance of the uppermost branches.
- Pruning Mature Trees – Pruning is necessary in order to remove dead or diseased branches from a tree. As the pruning of a mature tree usually takes place at the top of a tree, it is best to hire a professional to do the job. When your trees are pruned, you should make sure that any diseased branches that have been removed are disposed of properly to avoid spreading the disease to other trees.
- Removal of a Mature Tree – Some trees just weren’t meant to live for a hundred years or more. Diseases, insects, and the elements all play into the life of a tree and can cause damage that requires the removal of a tree. Tree removal should also be done by professional tree care experts, as they will be able to best determine how to remove the tree without disrupting or damaging the rest of your landscape.
