Nothing is more appealing than a carefully crafted circular bench surrounding a gorgeous full tree. It's the perfect place for enjoying a good book while the kids play nearby. Or if you do a great deal of outdoor entertaining, tree benches easily provide additional seating.

While this is something homeowners even with a limited amount of woodworking ability can usually tackle, the most important step is to ensure the tree trunk itself isn't damaged. Also, when constructing the bench allow for future tree and root growth.

One of the easiest ways to guarantee the tree won't outgrow the bench is to measure the diameter of the trunk and then add at least six inches for a mature tree and twelve or more for a young sapling. Before actually cutting the wood you've selected for the bench, fashion a cardboard or scrap wood model with the same dimensions to make sure the measurements are correct. Add legs and a comfortable seat back. Sand the rough spots and then apply a good long lasting weather resistant sealer. You now have a convenient bench which is both practical and attractive.
