If your trees are looking rough due to drought conditions, you may be worried about them surviving the winter. The best time to treat your tree to give it it's best chance of surviving the cold winter is to act before the soil freezes. Here are some tree maintenance tips to help your tree out during winter.
- Keep your trees well hydrated till the soil freezes. This moisture will help trees deal with winter temperatures.
- When it comes to watering, you want to water slowly to make sure the water gets down deep into the roots. A good rule is 10 gallons of water for each inch of your tree's diameter.
- To keep this all important moisture deep down in the soil, lay mulch around the base of your trees.
- If you are concerned about heavy snow fall bending and breaking branches of vulnerable trees, you may want to place snow fence around the tree. The snow fence or other barrier will help distribute heavy snow a little more evenly.
