Did you know that the state of Missouri is home to 77 communities that have been designated as a “Tree City USA” community? Kansas City and several of its surrounding communities, including Grandview, Lee’s Summit, Independence, and North Kansas City have earned this title. This is quite a prestigious recognition bestowed on over 3,400 communities around the nation.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. These organizations provide direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for both urban and community forestry programs in thousands of communities across America. Towns and cities are required to meet four standards established by The Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters to qualify as a Tree City USA; which include a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
We here at Cartwright Tree Care think it’s great that we get to live and work in and around such noteworthy communities, and we’re very proud to help keep the trees in our nearby “tree cities” looking great!
