Last March, we told you about America’s National Tree, the Oak, which was chosen by public vote through the National Arbor Day Foundation’s website. The National Arbor Day Foundation, along with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, is asking for the public’s help again to determine America’s Favorite Cherry Tree.
100 years ago, the mayor of Tokyo presented the city of Washington, DC, with a gift of 3000 cherry blossom trees as a way to commemorate the friendship between the U.S. and Japan. Each year since then, the National Cherry Blossom Festival has served as a celebrate that gift and as this year is the 100th anniversary of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, both foundations are jointly looking to determine which type of cherry tree is America’s favorite.
The Autumn Flowering Cherry, the Yoshino Cherry, and the Kwanzan (Kanzan) Cherry are the three type of cherry trees Americans can choose from, and the winner will be announced on April 27, 2012, which is the last day of the 2012 National Cherry Blossom Festival and Arbor Day 2012.
Are you interested in casting your vote to help determine America’s Favorite Cherry Tree? If so, head on over to the Arbor Day Foundation website to vote, and be sure to come back and let everyone here at Cartwright Tree Care know which tree got your vote!
