red_mapleRed maple trees are popular because of their stunning red foliage. However, before deciding to grow a red maple on your property, keep in mind that there are some problems you'll have to deal with. For example, their roots grow towards the surface, which can be disruptive to sidewalks and make lawn maintenance more difficult. The following are a few tips for keeping your red maple healthy in Kansas City:

Look for an area that is wet and either in full sun or partial shade. If you don't plant in an area that is wet the tree is going to need frequent irrigation throughout its entire life. Avoid planting in alkaline soil, which will cause pale and sickly leaves as well as poor growth. You'll need to water the tree before the soil dries - slow deep watering is the best technique for this.

Use general purpose fertilizer in the spring - although you probably won't need to fertilize every year. If you purchase your red maple from a respectable nursery, then you won't have to worry about pruning.

Use these tips to plant and care for your red maple and be sure to contact Cartwright Tree Care for tree care services in Kansas City.
