Forest Facts That Will Move You to Take Action

Hello, CTC Blog Reader! We hope this blog finds you well and ready to absorb a more comprehensive view of the good and bad that's happening in forests across the world. Therefore, we listed some forest facts that are perhaps less than pleasing. But, we followed them up with ones that will give you a brighter outlook and may prompt you to take some action. Read on to find yourself more aware and hopeful!

The Less Than Happy News

1. There are more plants, animals, and other organisms in rainforests than in any other habitat on land. In fact, according to www.factsofindonesia.com in their article, '17 Amazing Facts About Indonesia Rainforest,' rainforests ('cradles of diversity') support over fifty percent of living organisms here on Earth. They boast this feat though they cover less than a mere five percent of the surface of Earth.

2. The Sumatran Tiger is said to exist at a population of less than 400 according to an article by World Wild Life. These astonishingly beautiful cats are known to persevere when it comes to finding their prey. They will cover many miles to obtain their meal and like to eat things such as deer, wild boars, tapir, birds, fish, and monkeys!

3. Many of the medicines used across varying cultures are found here. While an incredibly small amount of the forests have been searched for produce which has a vast array of potential medical benefits, these forests are being cut down at an alarming rate. What could be of incredible use for humans is being lost due to our failure to preserve these habitats.

There Is Good News, Too

While we want you to take the alarming news above into account and see how you can be helpful, we don't want you to fret about the sad forest facts. We've compiled a few tidbits of information that will help you see the bright side. Let's take a look:

1. World Wild Life is working alongside the US government to halt illegal logging. They're also doing their part to influence policies. They help countries to gauge the value of natural resources they have and bring these assessments to decision makers. Then, these lawmakers can use the information to promote green living through processes in agriculture, the economy, and more.

2. One Tree Planted is planting trees across the world to counteract the devastating effects of deforestation. Between North and Latin America, Asia and Africa, they focus on 17 areas to make change by their planting efforts. By navigating through the links on this page, you can choose a territory that resonates with you. Then, starting with one U.S. dollar, you can choose how much you'd like to donate. Each dollar equals a tree planted. Plus, they will tell you about the impact you're making, you'll receive a certificate for your donation and be updated about projects in your chosen area.

3. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) states that there has been a 37% increase in forest cover in Rwanda because of their forest policy. They also tell us that the European Union and countries in Africa are working on a project that will build a 'green wall.' The wall will be made of trees along the Sahara that push against deforestation and maintain livelihood and agriculture in the zone between Sahel and Sahara.

As you've finished reading about our forest facts today, you may feel moved. Whether you decide to do your part by sharing this article, telling some others what you've learned, making a donation, or finding your unique way to contribute, we challenge you to do something. If we each make a small change, we can produce lasting effects, indeed!
