Weathering A Kansas City Storm

download-4.jpgWe take special care with the tasks of trimming, pruning and removals to help combat the effects of wind and snow; planting the right species for our local climate and hardy zones; choosing the right size and shape to plant near your home for shade to keep it cool; the list goes on and on!

But, during storm season we seem to see those trees down every where, on buildings, cars and power lines and when that wacky Kansas City weather knocks, it is tree care companies like us that are often the first call made by homeowner's to come in and "clean things up"!

With over a decade of experience in the tree care industry Cartwright Tree Care has established an effective system for prioritizing storm damage calls in our office.  The office staff ask specific questions that will determine how the call should be handled, which crew and equipment can get there fastest and existing customers are always at the top of the list!

In the midst of the chaos that comes with storm clean up, trees usually end up on structures like buildings, cars, power lines.... that adds some pressure! The main focus is to get the trees off of the structures.  If a tree has fallen on a house then the goal is to get the tree off of the house.  If we are getting multiple calls, we might have to get trees off of other peoples homes.  We will swing back around and clean up the mess once all of the trees are removed!

Our crews take special precautions when making cuts on the trees that are leaning or that have fallen against structures as to not injure their fellow crew members and to not do more damage to the structure.  These topics are addressed during our weekly safety meetings and the education really pays off during these intense situations. "Safety must be a number one priority- no matter what" says Cheryl Cartwright, owner of Cartwright Tree Care.

Having a plan of action and making sure your trees and shrubs are properly pruned, trimmed, treated or removed during non-storm seasons are all vital to the health, vigor and even the survival of your trees.  Cartwright Tree Care offers a free yearly Risk Assessment for all of your trees.  This will potentially help minimize the risks of costly storm damage.  Preventative maintenance on trees is kind of like insurance.  You hope you never need it, but you are going to save a lot of money should you need to use it.
