How to Know When to Remove a Tree in Kansas City
Do you have a tree on your property that isn’t looking its best? Are you unsure if the tree is healthy enough to be saved or if it needs to be removed? If so, we understand. This is a question we often get. As professionals and ISA Certified Arborists our team is frequently asked to assess the health of a tree to determine what they can do to save it. Which we love to hear. We love beautifying Kansas City, one tree at a time.
To help put your mind at rest we’ve provided a few tips we always follow that will help you to know when, and when not to remove a tree.
Obvious signs of damage – if you have trees on your residential or commercial property that have obvious signs of damage on more than half of the tree it may be time to call one of Cartwright Tree Care’s Certified Arborists to evaluate the tree’s health. If there is damage to your Ash from the Emerald Ash Borer, or deep vertical cracks through much of the tree’s trunk then it may be past the point of saving and need to be removed. Working with our Arborists and team of trimming specialists we can ensure any trimming of dead sections for preservation, or overall tree removal service is done with care and precision.
Hollow Tree – trees can become hollow for a variety of reasons. Whether it is disease and pest control issues or internal rotting from fungi and more, hollow trees frequently occur and can be a hazard to people and property around it. A good rule of thumb to follow with hollow tree is that if one third or more of the tree is hollow then it needs to be removed. If not, you could be at risk of falling limbs and potentially the tree itself collapsing.
When overgrowth and property meet – We frequently see where trees have grown more rapidly than predicated and start to become invasive to the surrounding buildings or home. If a builder did not appropriately plan for growth, or a tree has grown faster than expected you may need to remove the tree to protect your home or property. For smaller species of trees, it is best to plant them ten feet away from your home or building. For larger trees, 25 feet or more is best. A tree’s root system and canopy can be quite large, and if not accounted for, can pose a risk. If you have a tree that is closer than this to your home you may need tree trimming services performed regularly to control growth, or have it removed.
